Aaron Freeland Sorry for late response. Life has gotten busier since I finished school. I’m not sure why exactly you had type issue there, but I’m guessing I had the same issue and that is why I removed the last 2 digits of ICD code (see first part of the categorization code). Basically the last two digits in ICD-9 represent some variation of the same disease, so generally you can assume that the disease term itself is represented by the the first three characters and ignore the last two (if specified).
